Perpetuum Mobile

33 cm * 40 cm * 33 cm

Stainless steel - polished

25 mm glass balls

No lift - self propelled

Finished in August 2015.

My first desktop rolling ball sculpture. It has a spiral collector for 25 balls on the top.  Balls must be manually loaded. Every ball triggers the release mechanism at the bottom that releases the next ball from the top. This cycle repeats until all the balls reach the bottom where can be easily extracted by pressing the leaver.  It operates with one, two, or three balls at a time. When fully loaded it operates autonomously for 4 minutes and 14 seconds (one ball).

It was TIG welded and electropolished.

Owned by a collector from UK.
